Axiote/Achiote is a tree native to tropical areas in the Americas and it’s seeds, called Annatto, are used as a natural red food coloring and prized for their piquant, peppery, nutmeg-like flavor. This liqueur is made from a corn spirit base that’s infused with Annatto seeds, habanero chili, orange and lime peel, and fresh ginger root. It is bright and citric, lightly spicy, with a complex spice bouquet of assorted peppercorns and nutmeg. Mix it with sparkling water or in any number of cocktails, from a spicy Margarita to a complex stirred cocktail ingredient.
