A spicy Kumquat Liqueur made by Brucato Amaro in San Francisco’s Mission District. California grown Nagami kumquats and naval orange peels are cold macerated with unaged grape brandy in stainless tanks for 2 weeks. Mexican chile de arbol and Calabrian chilies are dried and macerated separately. The infusions are blended and rested for 6 weeks in steel tanks prior to sweetening with cane sugar and proofed to 40% ABV.
A similar proof and sweetness level of a classic Triple Sec, it can be swapped in to all manner of cocktails for a sweet and spicy accent. It is bright with kumquat tartness, pithy orange, spice and fruity complexity from the Calabrian chili, and a punchy lingering heat. One of the best new liqueurs we’ve tried in some time. Makes an absolutely delightful Spicy Margarita when paired with either Tequila or Mezcal.
