Straight from the dream book of our master blender, Alter Ego is where classic American rye meets tropical rebellion. This is a whiskey born from a unique vision, blending two distinct rye mash-bills—one bold and spicy at 95% rye, the other softer and more balanced at 51% rye. After aging for three to six years in new American white oak, the real magic begins.
This carefully crafted blend is introduced to our traditional Solera System, a cascade of casks that previously held rum from four different distilleries across the Caribbean and South America. In a solera, only a small portion of the oldest whiskey is bottled. This portion is then replaced by whiskey from the next oldest set of barrels, and so on, until the youngest barrels are topped off with a fresh blend. This perpetual cycle of aging and mixing creates a whiskey that grows more complex, balanced, and nuanced with each passing year.
The result is a spirit that is spicy, sweet, bright, and full-bodied. It delivers the peppery kick rye enthusiasts crave, while the rum cask finish adds layers of tropical fruit and brown sugar sweetness that even non-whiskey drinkers find irresistible. It’s a bold experiment that paid off, creating a rye that is as complex and intriguing as its name suggests.
